Key details
Who a road bike is really worth it for
If you train all year and come to add kilometres in good weather, Tenerife is a gift: long, steady climbs, good tarmac and mild winter temperatures. There's a reason many pro teams hold training camps here. The shop we work with, in Playa de las Américas, has twelve road models, all with Shimano 105 or better. Our advice: don't overpay for the bike. A BH SL1 2.9 (€30 a day on short rentals, €20 a day for ten to fourteen days) climbs the Teide just as well for most riders. If you ride many days in a row, Di2 electronic shifting (from €35) is welcome, and the light BH Ultralight is only worth it if you're chasing times on the climbs.
If you don't train: go electric, no question
The most common mistake is renting a regular bike for a gentle ride and discovering that almost everything goes uphill. There's little flat road along the sea in the south of Tenerife, and the beautiful routes (Vilaflor, the National Park, the hillside villages) all climb. On an e-bike that stops mattering. For tracks and dirt roads, the hardtail BH Core 29 and the full-suspension BH AtomX Cross cost the same: €40 a day for one or two days and €31 a day for ten to fourteen. On tarmac, the BH iRS1 electric road bike is €55 a day. When is it not worth it? If you only want an hour by the sea: pick another plan for that. And we only recommend the non-electric mountain bike (from €24 a day) to people who already ride trails at home.
The €450 guided week: who it's for
Five guided road rides with the bike included (Shimano 105 Di2), for €450 per person, without accommodation. It's worth it if you come for a training week and don't want to waste time finding routes or ride alone on roads you don't know. It's not worth it if you aren't fit: the programme includes Vilaflor (65 km and 1,500 m of climbing), El Porís along the south-east coast (105 km, 1,850 m), Masca via Los Gigantes (85 km, 1,750 m), a coffee ride to El Médano (60 km, 800 m) and the Teide (110 km, 2,500 m). If you're unsure whether you'll manage, tell us what you usually ride and we'll be honest. Dates on request.
What to know before you rent
The rental is counted in days from pick-up to return, and the more days, the cheaper each one: renting the whole week pays off even if you don't ride every day. The helmet isn't included: helmet, pedals and GPS mount are €5 each, once for the whole rental, so if you use clipless pedals, bring your own. The renter must be over 18 and leave a €100 card deposit. We book the bike for you, charge you through a secure link at the shop's public price and send you the confirmation on WhatsApp.

Frequently asked questions
Is Tenerife a good place to cycle?
For road cyclists, one of the best in Europe in winter: good weather, long climbs and good tarmac. For relaxed rides, less so: almost everything climbs. If you don't train, choose an e-bike.
Which bike should I rent if I've never climbed a mountain pass?
An e-bike. The mountain one (€40 a day) if you'll ride tracks; the road one (€55) if you'll stay on tarmac.
How much is a week of bike rental?
For six to nine days, a BH SL1 road bike is €22 a day and an electric mountain bike €33. Seven days come to €154 and €231.
Is an expensive bike worth it?
For most people, no. The difference between the €30 BH SL1 and the €65 Colnago V4 is felt by racers; to enjoy the climbs, the simple one is more than enough.
Do I need a helmet?
Yes, and it isn't included: it's €5 for the whole rental. Pedals too (€5), so if you use clipless pedals, bring your own.
Where do I collect it?
In Playa de las Américas, at the Zentral Center. If you're staying far away, hotel delivery can be requested at a cost depending on the area.
Can minors ride?
The person renting must be over 18. If a minor is riding with an adult, ask us about sizes and we'll confirm with the shop.
Is the guided week for me?
If you ride several times a week and can handle 100 km with climbing, yes. If not, better an e-bike and your own routes at your own pace.
How is the booking confirmed?
Naventia Trips checks availability, provider conditions and the traveller's level before confirming the experience.
Can you tell me what else to do on those days?
Yes, and it is what we get asked most. Tell us which days you have free and where you are staying, and we will say what pairs well with this excursion and what should not go on the same day.
