What you see once you leave the tarmac
The jeep safari exists for one specific reason: 4x4s reach mountain tracks and dirt roads where the tour bus cannot go. If you have rented a car, much of what you see here you could do yourself, and then this excursion loses its point. If you have not, it is the most complete way to see the island's interior in a day, and they pick you up at your hotel.
The usual route covers Las Cañadas del Teide, the Masca viewpoint, the northern ravines, the Anaga laurel forest and inland villages. That is a lot of ground in a few hours, so you see it from the vehicle and at short stops: do not expect to walk. The guide explains geology, flora and history along the way, and that is the part people remember, because scenery without context starts to look the same.
Groups are 10 to 12 people maximum, which means you can ask questions and the route can flex a little towards what the group is interested in. Suitable for all ages, hotel pick-up included. It works especially well for families and for anyone wanting an overview of the island on day one or two, to then decide where to go back on their own.

Frequently asked questions
Do I drive?
No: you ride as a passenger and the guide drives. That is the difference from the buggy and the quad, and why the jeep works for all ages and needs no licence. If what you want is to drive yourself, look at the buggy: there the wheel is yours.
Is it worth it if I already have a hire car?
Honestly, less so. A good part of what you see — Las Cañadas, the Masca viewpoint, Anaga — you can do yourself by road. What the jeep adds are the dirt tracks your car cannot enter, the guide who tells you what you are looking at and not driving five hours of bends yourself. If that is worth it to you, go ahead; if not, spend that money on something else.
How much does it cost?
Half-day to Teide, five hours: €61 per adult and €47 per child up to 11. Full day through Teide and Masca, seven hours: €68 and €53. From the north, the jeep to Masca: €63 and €47. For seven euros' difference the full day adds Masca and Vilaflor, and it is the one we recommend; the half-day makes sense if you are travelling with small children or already have something on that afternoon. Watch the days: from the south it only runs Tuesdays and Thursdays, and it fills up.
Half day or full day?
Half day to get a feel for the island on your first or second day, which is what it works best for. Full day only if you want Teide and Anaga in the same outing and do not mind spending six hours in the car: you see more, but through the window.
Is it suitable for children?
Yes, from about 5 or 6. Bear in mind that the dirt tracks are bumpy in places: children usually love it for exactly that reason, but if anyone in the group gets carsick, have them sit in front. For babies we do not recommend it.
Is there any walking?
Practically none: short stops at viewpoints to take photos and listen to the guide, then back in the car. If you expect to stretch your legs on Teide or in Anaga, this is not the excursion; the hiking ones, with two hours of trail, are for that.
What if it rains?
Tenerife has microclimates, and that works in your favour: if the north wakes up cloudy, the route diverts towards the south and Teide without losing the day. It is only cancelled with heavy rain or unsafe conditions, and then we change your date or refund your money. For any other reason, free cancellation up to 48 hours before.
What do I wear?
Clothes you do not mind getting dusty, closed shoes and a jacket, because on Teide it is cold even when you are sweating on the coast. Sunglasses and sunscreen: on the open tracks the sun hits from the side and nobody remembers the back of their neck.
Which language does the guide speak?
Spanish, English or French depending on the departure. Since the point of this excursion is what the guide tells you, give us your language when booking: if there is no guide who speaks it that day, we tell you and look for another date.
