The experience
Three hours leaving Chío and climbing towards Teide on roads and tracks, stopping at viewpoints where you see half the island. It is dusty and loud, and that is exactly the point: this is not a quiet scenic drive, it is driving. Of the three departures, we almost always recommend the sunset one even though it costs €20 more: the light on the volcano at that hour is nothing like midday and the photos take themselves. The 14:00 slot is the worst of the three in summer, with vertical sun and heat. And mind the basics: if nobody in your group holds a category B licence, you cannot drive, only ride along.

Frequently asked questions
Quad or buggy?
Quad if you are alone or a couple and fancy the open air with the handlebars in your hands: €110 per person. Buggy if there are three or more of you, or if someone in the group has no licence and rides as a passenger with children: there you pay per vehicle and with four on board it is cheaper per head. With a licence under two years old, neither: look at the jeep safari.
How much does it cost and what is not included?
€110 per person in the morning or afternoon and €130 at sunset, with the quad, the guide, basic insurance and the briefing. Meals, the transfer to Chío and photos are not included. If two of you share a quad, the price is still per person.
Is it worth paying €20 more for the sunset?
If it is your only motor outing of the trip, yes: the sunset light over Teide from the viewpoints is what people remember. If you are going up Teide another day, or if scenery matters more to you than light, the morning one gives you the same with less cold and for €110.
Do I need a licence, and does the passenger?
A category B licence for the driver, yes. The passenger does not need one, but the provider sets age and weight conditions for the passenger, and we confirm them before you book. Without a licence, nobody drives: there is no exception.
Is it for beginners?
Yes. The briefing covers the basics and the guide rides ahead setting the pace; after ten minutes you have the hang of it. What it does demand is attention: it is three hours on volcanic roads and tracks, and whoever thinks about photos instead of the road ends up tired. With closed shoes, sunglasses and a warm layer you are fine.
Where is Chío and how do I get there without a car?
Chío is in the west of the island, a good half hour by car from Costa Adeje. The transfer is not included: with a hire car it is easy, and without a car tell us when you book and we look at the pickup option for your date. The exact location reaches you by WhatsApp on confirmation.
When do we not recommend it?
With back or wrist problems: three hours of track on a quad take their toll. If someone in the group has no licence and does not fancy riding as a passenger. And in winter without proper warm clothes, especially on the sunset departure, which comes back after dark and in the cold.
Which language is the briefing in, and what about bad weather?
Spanish, English or French; tell us yours when booking. With heavy rain or wind that makes the route unsafe, the departure or date is changed; for any other reason, free cancellation up to 48 hours before. At altitude the weather changes quickly: if the forecast looks ugly, we warn you the day before.
