Why this isn't the hotel show
Nightlife in the south repeats itself: tribute acts, dinner shows, hotel entertainment. ARONA plays in a different league because it wasn't designed to fill a room with tourists — it was already working with a Canarian audience. It's by Compañía Pieles, ten years in, over 300 performances and several resident seasons at Los Jameos del Agua in Lanzarote.
Twelve performers on stage and very few conventional instruments: the percussion comes from farming tools, workshop implements and objects from the sea, topped by multi-part singing and large-scale staging. There's no dialogue, so the language you travel in doesn't matter.
Where it fits in your week
It's an evening plan that doesn't cost you the next day: it starts at 8:30 pm and you're out by 9:45 pm. It works well after a beach day in Los Cristianos or a quiet day around the south, and badly on the same day as the Teide by night or a long boat trip — you'll arrive at your seat exhausted.
The auditorium is in Los Cristianos, right by the centre and the harbour: ten minutes by car from Las Américas or Costa Adeje, with parking nearby, and the southern buses stop at the station a short walk away. The natural plan is dinner by the harbour first and going in when doors open at 7:30 pm.
What to know before deciding
Four things the leaflet won't tell you and that change the decision: there's no dinner and no drinks, it's a theatre, full stop. Seats aren't numbered, so if you turn up at 8:25 pm you sit wherever is left. The €35 is the ticket only, transport is on you. And it runs Wednesdays only: if your week has none, there's no plan B.
That said, if you want to understand something about the islands beyond the beach and you have a free Wednesday, it's the evening that will tell you the most about the Canaries down south. And it works better with children than you'd expect: the rhythm and the sounding objects reach them with nothing to explain.

Frequently asked questions
Is it worth it if I'm only here a week?
If that week includes a Wednesday and you want an evening that isn't dinner-then-back-to-the-hotel, yes. It takes an hour and a quarter, doesn't affect the next day and is the closest you'll get to understanding where the islands' culture comes from without spending a whole excursion on it.
Is it like a Canarian dinner show?
No. In a dinner show the table is the centre and the folklore is the backdrop. Here it's the opposite: a theatre performance, with a start time, a seat and a final bow, and nothing is served. If what you wanted was dinner, this will disappoint you.
Do I need to book in advance?
It's advisable. That's 700 seats for a single weekly performance, and in high season Wednesday is the only possible day for everyone. Since seats aren't numbered, booking secures your ticket, not your spot: that's decided by arriving early.
Can children or grandparents enjoy it?
Both, and that's one of its strengths for family trips: no walking, no physical effort and no language needed. The only limit is the timing — it ends at 9:45 pm.
