Why this isn't the hotel show
Nightlife in the south repeats itself: tribute acts, dinner shows, hotel entertainment. ARONA plays in a different league because it wasn't designed to fill a room with tourists — it was already working with a Canarian audience. It's by Compañía Pieles, ten years in, over 300 performances and several resident seasons at Los Jameos del Agua in Lanzarote.
Twelve performers on stage and very few conventional instruments: the percussion comes from farming tools, workshop implements and objects from the sea, topped by multi-part singing and large-scale staging. There's no dialogue, so the language you travel in doesn't matter.
Where it fits in your week
It's an evening plan that doesn't cost you the next day: it starts at 8:30 pm and you're out by 9:45 pm. It works well after a beach day in Los Cristianos or a quiet day around the south, and badly on the same day as the Teide by night or a long boat trip — you'll arrive at your seat exhausted.
The auditorium is in Los Cristianos, right by the centre and the harbour: ten minutes by car from Las Américas or Costa Adeje, with parking nearby, and the southern buses stop at the station a short walk away. The natural plan is dinner by the harbour first and going in when doors open at 7:30 pm.
What to know before deciding
Four things the leaflet won't tell you and that change the decision: there's no dinner and no drinks, it's a theatre, full stop. Seats aren't numbered, so if you turn up at 8:25 pm you sit wherever is left. The €35 is the ticket only, transport is on you. And it runs Wednesdays only: if your week has none, there's no plan B.
That said, if you want to understand something about the islands beyond the beach and you have a free Wednesday, it's the evening that will tell you the most about the Canaries down south. And it works better with children than you'd expect: the rhythm and the sounding objects reach them with nothing to explain.

Frequently asked questions
Is it worth it if I am only here for a week?
If that week includes a Wednesday and you want an evening that is not just dinner and back to the hotel, yes. It takes an hour and a quarter, does not affect the next day and is the closest thing to understanding where the islands’ culture comes from without devoting a whole excursion to it.
How much is it and do children pay less?
€35 per ticket, and for now there is no published child fare: they pay the same. It is the ticket only; neither transport nor any drinks are included, because there are none.
Is it like a Canarian dinner show?
No. At a dinner show the table is the centre and the folklore is the backdrop. Here it is the other way round: it is a theatre performance, with its start time, its seat and its final applause, and nothing is served. If what you were after was dinner, this will disappoint you.
How long is it and what time do I get out?
Seventy-five minutes with no interval: it starts at 20:30 and at 21:45 you are out on the street. It is one of the few evening things in the south that does not steal your next morning.
Do I need to book in advance?
It is advisable. There are 700 seats for a single weekly performance, and in high season Wednesday is the only possible day for everyone. As seats are not numbered, booking guarantees you the ticket, not the spot: that is decided by arriving early.
How do I get there and where do I park?
The auditorium is in Los Cristianos, next to the centre and the harbour: ten minutes by car from Las Américas or Costa Adeje, with parking nearby, and buses from the south stop at the station, a few minutes on foot. The natural plan is dinner by the harbour beforehand and going in when the doors open, at 19:30.
Can children or grandparents see it?
Both, and it is one of its advantages when travelling as a family: no walking, no physical effort and no need to understand the language. The only limit is the schedule, which ends at 21:45.
Who would we not recommend it to?
Anyone looking for a dinner show, a tribute act or entertainment: this is theatre and music. And anyone arriving exhausted from a full-day excursion that same Wednesday: it is not much fun half asleep in your seat. Put it after a beach day and it works.
Can you include it in the itinerary you are putting together for me?
Yes, and it is the easy way to do it: we set Wednesday as the fixed evening and build the rest of the days around it, keeping that afternoon quiet. Tell us when planning the trip and we fit it in with the other activities.
Can I cancel if my plans change?
Yes, free of charge up to 48 hours before the performance. As it is indoors, the weather does not come into it; and if you would rather move it to the following Wednesday, that is possible if that performance has room.
