What makes this morning different
The wine of southern Tenerife is the surprise. Vines here grow on volcanic soil, with very little rain and at altitudes where almost nobody would expect them, and that gives wines unlike those from the mainland. These are small wineries with short runs: most of what they make is drunk on the island and never reaches beyond the Canaries.
The banana farm explains something almost nobody knows: the Canarian banana is not the same fruit as the supermarket banana. It is left to ripen on the plant, takes considerably longer and that is why it tastes different and is smaller. Seeing it in the field, with the people who grow it, is one of those things you end up telling others.
In between you cross the farming south: terraces, cinder cones and the sea beyond. There is no photo stop, so if you want that landscape at your own pace you will have to drive up another day — it is worth it.

Frequently asked questions
Are five wines mid-morning not too many?
They are tastings, not glasses: only a small amount of each wine is served. Even so, if you would rather not drink you can do the visit all the same and keep the winery and the local produce; it is not the kind of excursion where that feels awkward.
How much does it cost and do children pay less?
€68 per adult and €58 for children up to 11, who do not taste the wine, of course. Included are the coach with pickup, the guide, the banana plantation with its tasting and the winery with the wine tasting. Not included: purchases, meals and tips.
Is it like visiting a winery on the mainland?
Not much. These are small wineries, with vines on volcanic soil and very little rain, in a landscape unlike any well-known wine region. If you expect one of the big wineries, with an industrial tour and a huge shop, this is not it.
When do we not recommend it?
If you do not drink wine and the farming world does not say much to you, it will end up being a coach ride with two stops. And if you are after spectacular scenery, there are excursions on this island that give you far more for the same money: this one is about produce and the people who make it, not views.
What do we eat, apart from the wine?
At the banana plantation, a tasting of local products made with banana, gofio and palm honey, plus tropical fruit; at the winery, local produce alongside the five wines. None of that is a meal: have breakfast before 8:00 and plan on lunch at the hotel when you are back, at 13:00.
Which language are the explanations in?
Spanish, English, French or German: it is one of the few excursions in the catalogue with a German-speaking guide. Tell us yours when booking and we confirm it with the provider.
Can I take wine home?
Yes, the winery sells what it produces and much of it never leaves the islands. For the flight, it goes in your checked luggage. Purchases are not included, and nobody will push you either.
Why only on Tuesdays?
Because the provider runs it on a fixed day, like the rest of its programme. If Tuesday doesn't suit you, tell us: there are two other agritourism mornings, aloe and bananas on Wednesdays and market and prickly pears on Fridays.
Do you pick me up, and can I cancel?
You are picked up at your accommodation anywhere in the south of Tenerife, around 8:00, and dropped back at the same place before 13:00. Free cancellation up to 48 hours before; we confirm places with the provider before closing. It runs in any weather.
