How long does it take to see Loro Parque?
Six to seven hours if you want to see it all without rushing. That is the short answer, and the one almost nobody gives you: the park opens from 10:00 to 18:00, and a full visit takes up nearly all of it.
What eats the time is not the animals, it is the shows. Each has its own time and you need to arrive early for a seat, so the day is built around them and you fill the gaps with everything else. Skip the shows and four hours will do; but then you have missed half of what people come for.
And you have to add the journey. The park is in Puerto de la Cruz, on the north coast, so from the south it is a good three quarters of an hour on the motorway, each way. Counting the drive there, back and the visit, it is a full door-to-door day: do not try to fit anything else in.
With small children, add an hour to whatever you calculate: they stop at everything, tire sooner and the distances inside the park are long. And arriving at 10:00 sharp rather than mid-morning makes a real difference: the first hour is the only one with no queues anywhere.
Why visit Loro Parque?
Loro Parque has ranked for years as the world's best park in TripAdvisor's traveller awards, and it shows in the facilities: over 4,000 animals from around 400 species, with enclosures that set an international benchmark. It is genuinely large, so you walk it slowly and in comfortable shoes. With small children, a pushchair helps more than you would think.
The best known: Europe's largest orca tank, the penguin colony in an Arctic environment, the gorillas, the white tigers, the dolphins and one of the planet's largest parrot collections, which is where the name comes from. The dolphin, sea lion and bird-of-prey shows are included in the ticket and repeat several times a day, so check the times as you go in and build your route around the two or three you want to see, rather than wandering and arriving late to all of them.
The park opens 10:00 to 18:00 and sits in Puerto de la Cruz, on the north coast. That geographical detail ruins more plans than any other: from the south it is a fair drive, so this day goes entirely on the park and should not be paired with anything else. We handle tickets and a direct transfer from the south. One note on the north: the weather is more changeable there than in the south, and while an overcast day barely affects the park, bring long sleeves.

How much time do I need to visit Loro Parque?
Between 5 and 6 hours to see it calmly and catch two or three shows. With children, count 6 or 7: you stop more, walk more slowly and have to add lunch. Add the journey from the south and the whole day is taken.
How much does it cost?
The ticket with transfer from the south is €65 per adult and €49 per child aged 3 to 11, with a minimum of five hours in the park. The Twin Ticket with Siam Park is €78 and €57, and with the coach to Loro Parque included, €99 and €74. The transfer does not run every day: El Médano and Costa del Silencio on Tuesdays, Golf del Sur on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Playa Paraíso to Los Gigantes on Mondays and Wednesdays. If you are staying in the north, near Puerto de la Cruz, do not pay for transport: the park is right there and the ticket alone is enough.
Loro Parque or Siam Park, if I can only do one?
If you travel with children who get bored walking, Siam Park: it is in the south, needs no transfer and is done in four hours. If they like animals and can cope with a long day, Loro Parque leaves a better memory. And if you are staying in the north, the answer is Loro Parque without hesitation: it is right next door.
How do I get there from the south?
It is in Puerto de la Cruz, about 45-60 minutes from the south depending on where you start and how the TF-1 is doing. We arrange your transfer by bus or taxi from the hotel, which is the most convenient. You can also go by hire car or by public bus, but with public transport the day gets considerably longer.
Is the transfer worth it or should I take the bus?
With children, transfer with no debate: it drops you at the gate and picks you up on time, and the little ones arrive in one piece. Without children and in no hurry, the direct bus from the south works, but expect the journey to be longer and the day to end later. With a hire car, drive.
Is there a discount for children?
Under-3s enter free and 3 to 11-year-olds pay a reduced fare. We confirm the exact price when you book, because it changes with the season and the ticket type.
Which day and what time is best to go?
On a weekday and arriving at 10:00, when it opens. The first thing on entering is to check the show times and plan your route around the two or three you want: it is a big park and whoever wanders around ends up late for all of them. It is almost as enjoyable when cloudy; the weather in the north is more changeable, so bring long sleeves.
Can I eat inside?
Yes, there are restaurants and kiosks inside the park, although food is not included in the ticket. If you go with children, factor the lunch stop into the 6 or 7 hours: it is where the show timetable most often goes off track.
Can I do Loro Parque and Teide on the same day?
No. Each needs a full day and on top of that they are at opposite ends of the island. It is the combination we most often have to advise against: it works on paper, but you end up seeing both by halves with four hours of driving on top.
What if it rains on the day I have booked?
The park opens all the same and with light rain you visit without a problem. With really heavy rain, message us and we move your date within your stay. For any other change, free cancellation up to 48 hours before.
